The first GTS potato planted

on the

 17 March 2008.

The potato was brought from the market already chitting intended

for eating not for growing.

The potato was cut to make planting easier in our mini barrel.

.

The mini barrel was made from a plastic water bottle.

Holes were cut in the bottom for drainage.

.

After seven days there was a good show of growth from the potato.

.

Eleven days from planting, the potato was taken from the

mini barrel to be measured.

You can see from the photo that in only such a short time there is an impressive amount of good, strong growth.

.

On the 28th March this potato was planted into the bottom of a bucket and left for Fran to take care of.

.

 Update 1, 5thApril 2008:-

The test potato in the bucket has grown to the top of the bucket, and been topped up with 3 inches of soil, it will soon need staking.

Update 2, 9th April:-

Bucket topped up again. Potatoes are growing as we speak a bit like Jack and the bean stalk, hope there is a pot of gold at the top or maybe bottom in this case.
Fran.

Update 3, 21st April:-

This photo was taken on the 21st April and sent to me from The Gambia. There looks to be about 40 cm (16 inches) of growth in only 24 days from when it was planted in the bucket.

Bucket has since been topped up to the top.

I will update this page as the potato grows.
